FJERO tests hydraulic subsea cylinders under water

Documented cylinder quality is important to customers – especially when the cylinders are to be installed in deep water. FJERO’s pressure testing, both above water and under water, provides assurance.

FJERO has worked for many years with accumulated service life testing of cylinders and mandatory pressure testing according to three-party rules, in order to provide documented quality – also called Proven Technology. With a high degree of documentation and traceability, customers can feel reassured knowing that their newly purchased cylinders satisfy the established specifications and requirements.

FJERO tests at several levels. First, FJERO conducts an ordinary pressure test using its pressure testing system. The system can test just about any type of cylinder. In addition to the mandatory pressure test, FJERO has in recent years also offered subsea pressure testing. Especially customers who work in the subsea sector need documented quality, and that is where FJERO’s subsea pressure tests have been a huge success.

The cylinders are lowered into a vat of water. The pressure test is conducted at a load corresponding to the intended load and immediately reveals whether the cylinder satisfies the requirements. The most recent subsea testing was performed on cylinders for a subsea customer who wanted testing and documentation for a specially-designed damper function that actually utilises the water in the surrounding environment.

The quality requirements are high for underwater products, especially as downtime is costly and greatly impacts the bottom line. The test went as planned, giving rise to no remarks.
